The words on the NGSL list are high frequency, core foundational words that will show up again and again. You would be wise to make sure you know them well before moving on to other words. You WILL run into them repeatedly. The question is: Will you have had the foresight to study them beforehand?

Stepping down from 120 WPM to 80 WPM to 60 WPM

Here, we have a passage of 240 words. It is dictated for two minutes at 120 WPM. Then three minutes at 80 WPM before we wrap up with (2+2) minutes at 60 WPM. The whole passage contains almost thirty word groupings and we've included the printed Teeline shorthand to assist you.

The NGSL is a list of high frequency words published by Browne, Culligan and Phillips in 2013. The 2,800 words on the list represent less than 0.4% of the English language yet cover 92% of the words students will likely meet in their daily lives.
